Bobcat Build 2010

Bobcat Build is the 2nd largest community outreach program in the state of Texas after Habitat for Humanity.  In 2010, I served as the Vice President of the Texas State ASID Student Chapter and as head of our organization’s team I raised $3,200 in both monetary and product donations.  Our sponsors included InterfaceFLOR, Lowes, Sherwin Williams, Dianne Flack Furniture, Target, JC Penney, Abbey Flooring, Johnny Rockets, and Texas Cinema.  Our updates to their small, 800 sqft house were extensive and included:

repainting walls, trim and ceilings, new vinyl plank flooring in living room and hall,  removal and installation of carpet squares in all 3 bedrooms, refinishing of most of their furniture, construction of additional furniture pieces, new mattresses, new bedding, new art, new curtains, rods and blinds in every room.

With the help of a city official, I was able to find a contractor to come in and replace their shower surround and the adjacent drywall at no cost.  The existing shower was improperly installed and soaked the backing wall with every use.  The wall and carpeting in the son’s room were continuously wet and as a result, creating a mold issue.  Thanks to our contractor, the health concern was resolved and the family now has a safe and clean home.
