The schroder house is a direct expression of the de stijl movement, which prioritized heavily on the importance of using only horizontal and vertical planes. Most of the horizontal and vertical planes were offset in layers that were not meant to intersect, giving the pieces an abstract look, but still retaining a sense of balance. Its clean lines and distinctive shapes show that it is truly a work of art in its own right.
